The Republican Party was founded in 1854 to oppose the expansion of slavery, they originated on principles of free labor, equality, and national unity. Rooted in opposing slavery and strengthening the Union, its ideology evolved from 19th-century abolitionism and economic modernization to 20th-century conservatism, emphasizing limited government, free markets, and individual liberty
